About Kalkan
Kalkan is in the area of Turkey known as the Turquoise Coast, and the scenery is absolutely stunning - picture postcard beauty. The pine trees nestling on the beautiful mountains, and at the beginning of the season you can often see the snow still resting on the peaks. Climbing up the winding roads, suddenly there she is, that hidden jewel of the Mediterranean - Kalkan.

Kalkan - Historical sites and landscape
There is more history along this coastline than any other part of Turkey. There are thousands of ancient rock tombs, and also several historical sights within one hours drive, including Xanthos, Letoon and Patara. There is also the sunken city of Kekova, and the spectacular Saklikent Gorge where you can paddle through the icy cold waters from the mountains, or sip ice cold drinks whilst watching others!

Nearby Beaches
There is a pebbly beach in the harbour area of Kalkan, however a ten minute bus ride away is Kaputas beach, beautiful sandy beach, although there are about 90 steps down (and up) and there are no facilities there. A little further afield, about 30 minutes and you have Patara beach, which is 18 kilometres of sand, and there are facilities here.

Kalkan - relaxed ambiance
Kalkan is one of the more sophisticated villages of Turkey. It’s not very large. The winding cobbled streets, which are pedestrianised at night, lead down to the harbour. The old Greek buildings with their balconies covered in bougainvillea, the rooftop terrace and harbour side restaurants and bars, the warmth of the Mediterranean evenings, and most importantly, the people, all make this the perfect place for a relaxing, peaceful holiday.

Of course, if you don’t want to relax, there are the historical sights, white water rafting, horse riding, scuba diving, gulet cruise (about £5 per person for the day, including lunch), jeep safaris and many, many more.
